Skin line - III
Porcelain
Dimension variable
2024
This is the third piece from the Skin Line series initiated in 2012. The artist began this series out of curiosity about and doubt towards her own body in her early twenties. Through this work, she aims to explore the individuality of body parts and their intimacy with the owner. For this piece, the artist abstracts and repositions body parts to discover micro landscapes represented by close-up views of the body's surface.
In 2018, Skin Line - II consisted of an array of replicas of fragmental body parts from her partner. The process of collecting, replicating, and reappropriating another intimate person's body parts became a sedimentation of their relationship.
The latest piece, Skin Line - III, is anchored to the artist’s concept of ‘home’ while living abroad. By revisiting streetscapes from her homeland, she explores the traces of abrasion and signs of deterioration and change, connecting them to her own body's evolution. Abstracting the contour lines of her body with close-up views of the street allows the artist to feel less burdened while carrying her less-detailed home with her.
